About The Role

Scoping Review Contractor: Conflict-Sensitive Nature-Based-Solutions for Resilience

Location: Home-based (UK or international)
Schedule: Up to 20 days between November and December 2025
Contract: Self-employed and contractor

Are you self employed or a contractor?  Could your business help the BRC shape the future of climate resilience and peacebuilding?

Communities in fragile and conflict-affected settings (FCAS) face some of the harshest consequences of climate change—scarcity of land, water, and forests often fuels tensions and undermines livelihoods. Yet, conflict-sensitive nature-based solutions (NbS) offer a powerful, underexplored pathway to strengthen resilience in FCAS. This is achieved by restoring ecosystems, fostering inclusive natural resource management, protecting food and income sources and supporting sustainable livelihoods. The BRC is commissioning a scoping review to uncover how locally led NbS can incorporate conflict sensitivity and peacebuilding and strengthen resilience in FCAS. Your insights will help identify best practices, knowledge gaps, and priority research questions that will guide future programming and influence global humanitarian strategies.

We are not recruiting an employee - we need a registered sole trader or Limited Company to deliver these critical services. Outlined in the Terms of Reference are tasks such as conducting a comprehensive desk review, mapping key actors, and facilitating a Delphi study. Please only put yourself forward for this contracted position if your business has the capacity to carry out these tasks.

This is your opportunity to help the BRC influence global humanitarian strategy and help communities turn environmental challenges into pathways for peace.

What will a day in the life of a Conflict-Sensitive NbS for Resilience Research Consultant involve?

  • Conducting a comprehensive review of case studies, reports, and academic literature.
  • Mapping key actors and initiatives at the intersection of NbS in FCAS.
  • Designing and facilitating a Delphi study (or any other participatory methodology) to validate findings and identify research priorities.
  • Producing high-quality reports with actionable insights for programming.

To be a successful consultant, what will you need?

  • A defined work history in environmental science, peace and conflict, humanitarian/development, or climate resilience.
  • Proven experience in desk reviews, qualitative research, and participatory methods (e.g., Delphi studies).
  • Strong understanding of NbS, natural resource management, and peacebuilding in fragile contexts.
  • Excellent analytical, writing, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Interested? The closing date for applications is 23:59 on the 26th November 2025

How to Apply

To apply, please submit the following:

  • supporting statement that includes a proposed financial offer.
  • current CV detailing relevant experience.
  • At least two examples of reports, publications, or research outputs authored or co-authored by the contractor. These should demonstrate expertise in one or more of the following areas: nature-based solutions, fragile and conflict-affected settings, environmental science or ecology, peace and conflict studies, climate resilience, or sustainability. The samples should reflect the contractor’s ability to conduct analytical research, synthesise complex information, and communicate findings clearly to diverse audiences.

You may include links to these samples in your supporting statement, embed them in your CV, or email them to the hiring manager at [email protected]

This is a short-term consultancy, not a salaried staff role. You must be self-employed or a contractor; self-employed workers are not paid through PAYE and do not have the rights and responsibilities of an employee.

Together, we are the world's emergency responders.
