About The Role

Job Title: Missing Maps Workshop Facilitator
Job Location: UK Flexible
Pay: £350 - £400 day rate
Contract Type: Self-employed

What will the role look like?

Are you passionate about inspiring volunteers to make a difference? As a Missing Maps Workshop Facilitator for the British Red Cross, you’ll be leading digital workshops called “mapathons.” These workshops help map areas at risk from disasters, such as floods or storms. The data you help produce will be used by communities and humanitarian organisations to prepare for emergencies. The Missing Maps Workshop Facilitator is expected to deliver a mapathon approximately every other month. Each mapathon will take about 1.5 days to prepare and deliver, with some initial training required during the induction to the British Red Cross and Missing Maps.

You’ll work with groups of corporate volunteers, both online and in-person. Can you ensure participants are engaged and enjoy the experience? Will you help them produce high-quality maps that can save lives? If so, this could be the role for you!

What will your day-to-day look like? You’ll:
  • Prepare workshop materials, tailoring presentations and resources for each "mapathon".
  • Familiarise yourself with mapping tasks and objectives to guide participants.
  • Facilitate online and in-person workshops, engaging participants with dynamic storytelling and hands-on support.
  • Provide 1:1 guidance during the "mapathon" to ensure high-quality mapping.
  • Review data produced during workshops to ensure it meets quality standards.
  • Oversee follow-up processes like feedback forms and geographic data analysis post-event.
To be a successful Missing Maps Workshop Facilitator, you’ll need:
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to engage participants online and in-person.
  • Strong facilitation abilities to create an interactive and inclusive experience.
  • The ability to simplify technical instructions and provide clear guidance.
  • Attention to detail in reviewing mapping data and ensuring accuracy.
  • Proven experience in workshop facilitation, especially with diverse groups.
  • Knowledge and experience of geospatial tools.
  • Understanding of the corporate sector and experience working with corporate volunteers (desirable).
The closing date for applications is 23.59 on the of 16th October 2024. Please note, we reserve the right to close applications early, given high volume.

At The British Red Cross, we pride ourselves on our diverse workforce, and ensuring we have an inclusive environment for all our staff and volunteers.
