What will an Internal Communications Manager's job involve?
- Help provide clarity on the strategic priorities of the British Red Cross, and the direction of the organisation, by better connecting employees and volunteers to the work the organisation does.
- Ensure we communicate change, and the benefits it brings, through our key channels with a strong consistent narrative.
- Ensure a people-centred experience is at the heart of all our communications, and they are simple, informative and actionable.
- Proactively seek out new ways of communicating with our people that we can test and learn.
- Play a leadership role within the Internal Engagement team – including with direct line management of two people.
- Ensure our channels are performing against agreed metrics and enable teams to use this information to inform content and channel design.
- Ensure our channels tell the whole story of Our People at the British Red Cross – that they are diverse and inclusive.
- Build and maintain relationships with key colleagues to enable greater strategic internal communications support.
To be a successful Internal Communications Manager, you’ll need:
- Strong people management skills – setting clear day-to-day direction and building long-term development plans.
- Excellent internal communications skills – strategic channel management with multiple internal audiences.
- Good change communication skills - knowing how to engage people, inspire action and demonstrate benefits.
- Strong influencing skills including persuasive speaking, presentation and writing skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing and / or new, sudden onset demands - revising plans, content, approaches as needed.
- Experience of using evaluation metrics and audience insight to develop internal communications plans and approaches.
- Experience of managing the delivery of internal events, in partnership with other teams.
- Ability to build positive working relationships and work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to deliver joint outcomes.
