About The Role

Winter Pressures Project
Contract: Fixed Term to 31st March 2021
28 Hours per week (Service operates Mon - Sun, 18:00 - 02:00)
Salary: £18,009 per annum pro rata (£14,407 for 28hrs) (An additional 20% enhancement applies to hours worked after 10pm)
Location: Merthyr Tydfil, Prince Charles Hospital (Requires travel within the area)

We are looking for a caring and resilient person, who can think on their feet in a pressured environment to join our Independent Living team.
Based in fast paced, busy and intense Emergency Department, you will provide practical and emotional support to patients. You will undertake non-medical tasks to free up the medical staff to be able to focus on their clinical role and make visitors' stay as comfortable as possible.

Responsibilities are very varied and include, but are not limited to:
Escorting patients to assigned departments
Collecting prescriptions to speed up their discharge
Providing emotional support/pastoral care while they await treatment
Providing emotional support to close friends and families
Ensuring patients have food/drink while waiting for long hours
Driving patients home when discharged and making sure they are safely settled at home
Signposting and referring patients to other sources of support in the community
 
Please note that this service runs from Monday to Sunday (including bank holidays) and successful candidate will be expected to commit to up to 10-hour shifts.

The Independent Living (IL) & Crisis Response (CR) service (IL/CR) are dedicated to making lives of vulnerable people a little bit better. We're a small team dotted all over the country that shares the same goal - to help those that need it most.
From picking up groceries to helping out around the house, we're there to make a difference. There's nothing better than knowing the time we spent with someone made them feel safer, happier, and more able to deal with crisis.

This role could be for you if…
You can make things great. You know how to improve service quality for the benefit of users. You’re professional. You can deal with queries in a diplomatic and confidential manner. You love being flexible. Working hours out with the norm suits you.
Also, you should be the following:
Educated to GCSE level (or equivalent by experience)
IT literate
Full driving licence holder with a driving licence which allows you to operate a manual transmission vehicle (please note that, due to vehicle insurance policy requirements, applicants must be aged 21 or over and must have held their licence for a minimum of two full years)
Have a good knowledge of services provided by the NHS and Social Care

Please note due to the context and duties of this role, in line with government guidelines it is not suitable for individuals who are clinically extremely vulnerable or clinical vulnerable to undertake this role.
