About The Role

Service Support Worker - Emergency Department
Winter Pressures Project
Contract type: Fixed term to 31st  March 2021
Hours per week: 28 Hours (Service operates Mon - Sun, 18:00 - 02:00)
Salary: £18,009 per annum pro rata (actual salary for 28 hours is £14,407.20 per annum. An additional 20% enhancement applies to hours worked after 10pm)
Location: Royal Glamorgan Hospital, Llantrisant (requires travel within the area)

We are looking for a caring and resilient person, who can think on their feet in a pressured environment to join our Independent Living team.
 
Based in fast paced, busy and intense Emergency Department, you will provide practical and emotional support to patients. You will undertake non-medical tasks to free up the medical staff to be able to focus on their clinical role and make visitors' stay as comfortable as possible.
 
 
Responsibilities are very varied and include, but are not limited to:
 
  • Escorting patients to assigned departments
  • Collecting prescriptions to speed up their discharge
  • Providing emotional support/pastoral care while they await treatment
  • Providing emotional support to close friends and families
  • Ensuring patients have food/drink while waiting for long hours
  • Driving patients home when discharged and making sure they are safely settled at home
  • Signposting and referring patients to other sources of support in the community
Please note that this service runs from Monday to Sunday (including bank holidays) and successful candidate will be expected to commit to up to 10-hour shifts (flexible days).

You can make things great. You know how to improve service quality for the benefit of users.You’re professional. You can deal with queries in a diplomatic and confidential manner. You love being flexible. Working hours out with the norm suits you.
 
Also, you should be the following:
  • Educated to GCSE level (or equivalent by experience)
  • IT literate
  • Full driving licence holder with a driving licence which allows you to operate a manual transmission vehicle (please note that, due to vehicle insurance policy requirements, applicants must be aged 21 or over and must have held their licence for a minimum of two full years)
  • Have a good knowledge of services provided by the NHS and Social Care
