About The Role

Ambulance Crew Members (qualified)
Location: North East of England (hubs in Newcastle and Middlesbrough)
Permanent Contract (36 Hours per week, 12-hour shifts)
Salary: GBP 19,530 per annum




We currently have 10 exciting opportunities, for qualified, enthusiastic, and caring individuals to join our team in the North East of England on a permanent basis, to work within our Ambulance Service. 

The ambulance crew is responsible for the day to day operation and deployment of a Red Cross Emergency Ambulance working under contract for North East Ambulance Service (NEAS). The role will be to work as part of a two-person team responsible for providing safe, effective emergency care for service users who require admission to hospitals within the North East of England (working out of bases in Newcastle, NE4 8SR, and Middlesbrough, TS4 2EZ) and if necessary, further afield. 

It will be necessary to respond as a “first response” to life threatening emergencies as determined by NEAS control. You will play an important role in conveying patients in a safe, comfortable, and sympathetic manner, observing road and driving conditions at all times. The role involves driving, or assisting as part of a crew, patients with different requirements based on their mobility classification.

Our services are regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and we apply the same standards to our service delivery across the whole of the UK. Our fleet and equipment are comparable with those deployed by NHS services.

What you’ll bring to the role:


Your warm, caring nature and positive attitude will bring comfort to patients. Your previous experience and judgement which will aid you in making sound decisions. You’ll be sensitive when working with vulnerable people and have no trouble going the extra mile to make them feel comfortable, safe and cared for. 

Your qualifications, previous experience, as well as understanding and awareness of the differing physical needs of our service users and a genuine interest in their well-being; and your desire to help people in your local community.


This role might be for you if you have the following:

You've got a full, clean drivers’ licence (held for minimum of two years)
Relevant Qualifications (for example, Emergency Care Assistant Ambulance Crew, FutureQuals, Blue Light Driver Qualifications)
You are passionate about bringing your experience of patient care to the British Red Cross
You are flexible - comfortable working shifts that include unsocial hours, bank holidays, evenings and weekends as required. Our pre-planned rotas cover 7 days a week, working between the hours of 9am and 1am
