About The Role

Head of Inclusion and Diversity
Location: Flexible
Hours: 35
Contract: Permanent
Salary: Circa £60,000

Are you an engaging leader who is ready to drive our ambitious inclusion and diversity strategy throughout the British Red Cross and beyond?

In this exciting new role, you will lead the British Red Cross’ work in inclusion and diversity (I&D) to create an environment where every staff member and volunteer can be their authentic self at work. We have a strong I&D team in place already and, as the new head of inclusion and diversity, you’ll work with our technical experts to ensure that I&D becomes truly embedded in every part of our culture and operations.

As an actively anti-racist organisation, the Red Cross works internally to address historical issues around inequality and publicly to support a wide range of communities. This covers areas as diverse as how to talk to children about racism and vaccine hesitancy. All of this work reflects our fundamental principles and core values. Now, in this career-defining opportunity, your passion and expertise will influence leadership teams and take our I&D work to a new level to benefit our services, partners, staff and volunteers alike.

A key focus of this new role will be to build broad understanding of and engagement with our I&D strategy and interventions. This will ensure appropriate collaboration with our operational delivery teams, expert functions and internal networks, and also make the most of opportunities to use people’s lived experience to build insight and find effective solutions.

The role will require effective working and strong influencing skills with senior leadership, including our executive leadership team; it will also be a key point of expert contact within the organisation.
Why this role matters

We are on a journey but there is still progress to be made. We’re serious about doing things differently and this new, high-profile role will pioneer our cross-organisational, transformational inclusion and diversity agenda. This includes leading, shaping and taking forward the organisational I&D strategy and strategic priorities, as well as developing a proactive approach to identifying risks and opportunities. All of this will bring to life and embed best practice throughout our systems, processes and management approaches. The role will also strengthen organisational approaches to combat discrimination in all its forms.

You’ll be right for the role if…

You’re confident leading systematic change regarding practice, behaviours, and attitudes.
You’re experienced in influencing and leading change, and can work collaboratively within the people leadership team as well as with leaders throughout the British Red Cross.
You’ve had senior-level experience leading on, designing and developing I&D strategy with a focus on strong, broad collaboration, co-production and engagement, including opportunities to use lived experiences.
You can support the development of systems, procedures, processes and ways of working to operationalise and embed good practice.
You can provide expert advice and guidance for all staff, including for senior leadership, through working collaboratively with stakeholders to identify effective communication channels and key messaging.
You can champion strong role-modelling and a gold standard culture of inclusion and diversity throughout the organisation.

Paul Amadi MBE is our Chief Supporter Officer and has written a blog about the importance of Inclusion and Diversity within the organisation, you can read it here
