Building Maintenance Officer
Location: Fully onsite at Moorgate, London (EC2Y 9AL)
Contract: Permanent
35 Hours per week (typically Mon – Fri. Occasional weekend working)
Salary: £34,656 (plus ILW, £3,344, if residing & working in London) per annum
The British Red Cross are looking for a Building Maintenance Officer to join us in our head offices in London. Can you take responsibility for scheduling and managing our building’s maintenance, ensuring a functional, compliant and safe environment for all building users? A day in the life of our Building Maintenance Officer will involve
In this busy role you’ll manage the PPM planner by scheduling and overseeing service visits. You’ll ensure visits happen and reports are received. You’ll oversee remedial PPM works, including reviewing reports, surveying, tendering, and supervising contractors. You’ll act as the first response to maintenance issues by assessing, isolating, and making areas safe. You’ll also carry out general maintenance tasks such as plumbing, decorating, and fixing fixtures and fittings.
You’ll also work to make sure we have a safe and compliant building. Managing fire and water risk assessments, you’ll ensure all actions are reviewed. You’ll carry out regular water management and fire safety checks. You’ll keep hard services records and certifications up to date. You’ll complete routine building inspections and report health and safety risks and hazards.

To be successful in this position you must have the following skills and experience:
- Time and deadline management skills – responding to and prioritising a range of competing demands.
- Problem solving skills – can assess situations and quickly identify solutions, with confidence in your decisions.
- Excellent communications and interpersonal skills, including judgement, tact and diplomacy.
- Strong initiative, with ability to work with a high level of autonomy and to take personal responsibility for completing tasks.
- Proven practical experience of delivering minor repairs (such as plumbing, decorating and repairing fixtures and fittings).
- Experience of working in Facilities Management, specifically Hard Services.
- IT literacy. Experience of using Microsoft 365 applications including Outlook, Excel, Word and Teams.
