Emergency Response Officer
Location: London (Hybrid)
Salary: £27,041 per annum (plus ILW, if residing & working in London)
Hours: 28 per week
Contract: Fixed term contract (until August 31st 2026)
Additional Requirement: Applicants must have a full licence (2 years) and access to a vehicle.

As an Emergency Response Officer, you’ll be at the heart of our crisis response efforts - coordinating volunteers, supporting vulnerable people, and working with partners to deliver life-changing support. A day in the life of an Emergency Response Officer will involve:
- Overseeing the recruitment, induction, and training of new volunteers, and providing ongoing leadership and support to ensure high standards are met.
- Participating in key meetings with local resilience forums and emergency planning teams to advise and assist their initiatives.
- Engaging with local authorities, fire and rescue services, and community organisations to strengthen relationships and enhance community resilience.
- Conducting thorough audits of equipment, vehicles, and supplies to ensure everything is operationally ready for any emergency situation.
- Occasionally working evenings, whether it’s conducting volunteer meetings or training sessions.
To be a successful Emergency Response Officer, what will you need?
- Excellent communication skills at a variety of levels.
- To be highly motivated, enthusiastic, and well-organised.
- An understanding of how to improve service quality for the benefit of users and to develop services in line with needs.
- Possess strong IT proficiency, with experience using email, word processing, and spreadsheet packages.
- Have experience of maintaining effective working relationships internally and externally.
- Ability and willingness to work unsociable hours, respond to emergency situations with 24-hour on-call duties.
- Exhibit a strong commitment to working with volunteers. Provide training and support to empower them in responding to local incidents while upholding the values of the British Red Cross.
- Possess a full UK drivers licence.
In this truly rewarding role, you will be part of a 24-hour on-call rota as potential emergency response duties can arise at any time. You’ll need to be easily accessible to the location to attend work meetings and face to face events on a regular basis. Candidates should be located within the London area.
